Meet Day Guide

Meet Day Schedule

  • Meet Start Time: 5:30 PM
  • Warm-Ups: Typically begin between 4:00–4:30 PM (arrival times will be communicated before each meet.)
  • Total Events: 86

Each swimmer typically competes in up to four events, including two individual events and two relays. Swimmers may be asked to compete in a relay with an older age group if needed. Swimmers may not compete in a younger age group.

Please note: due to relay team numbers, not every swimmer will compete in all four events at every meet. When relay assignments must be adjusted because of uneven numbers, coaches carefully consider a variety of factors, including each swimmer's fastest times, team strategy, and participation in practices leading up to the meet.

Whenever possible, swimmers who are unable to participate in two relay events will be placed into a third individual event. However, this is not always possible, particularly at meets where the timeline has already been extended or event limits prevent additional entries.

Our coaching staff works hard to create the strongest lineups while providing meaningful opportunities for every swimmer. We encourage families to support the event assignments selected by the coaches and remind swimmers to give their best effort in every race they are asked to compete in.

Order of Events

  • Events 1–2: 6 & Under Freestyle Relays

Scoring

Each swim meet is scored based on individual events and relay events.

Individual Events

Only two swimmers per team are eligible to score points in each individual event.

  • 1st Place: 5 Points
  • 2nd Place: 3 Points
  • 3rd Place: 1 Point

Relay Events

Only one relay team per team is eligible to score points in each relay event.

  • 1st Place: 7 Points
  • 2nd Place: 3 Points

Ribbons

During regular-season dual meets, ribbons are awarded based on each swimmer's placement within their individual heat. This means multiple swimmers may receive a 1st Place ribbon if they win different heats of the same event.

At the ASA County Championship Meet, ribbons are awarded based on the overall finishing order across all heats for each event. Swimmers are ranked by their official times, regardless of which heat they competed in.

Bullpen

The bullpen is where swimmers wait with their age group between events. Bullpen volunteers help line swimmers up, escort swimmers to the starting blocks, and ensure everyone arrives at their events on time.

To help meets run smoothly, swimmers should remain in their assigned bullpen area unless they have permission from a bullpen volunteer to leave. Parents are encouraged to allow bullpen volunteers to supervise swimmers during the meet so they can focus on getting each swimmer to their events safely and on time.

What to Bring

We recommend packing the following items for every swim meet:

  • Team swimsuit
  • Team swim cap
  • Two pairs of goggles
  • Two towels
  • Warm, dry clothes
  • Water bottle
  • Healthy snacks
  • Money for concessions
  • Books, games, or quiet activities for the bullpen
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug spray
  • Sharpies

Please label all belongings. We recommend leaving valuable items and expensive electronics at home.

Meet Themes

Every swim meet features a fun theme to help build excitement and create lasting memories throughout the season! Themes may include favorites like Under the Sea, Neon Night, Red, White & Blue, Hawaiian Luau, Superheroes, and more.

The team provides fun themed items that coordinate with each meet, such as temporary tattoos, glow sticks, necklaces, leis, and other themed accessories whenever possible.

Swimmers are encouraged to participate by dressing according to the theme in any way they choose before and after their events. Feel free to get creative with themed clothing, hair accessories, face paint, socks, sunglasses, or other fun additions. Please remember that all swimmers must still wear their official team swimsuit while competing.

Each week's meet theme and any important details will be included in the weekly meet communication email.

Swimmer Arm Markings

Before each meet, coaches or volunteers will write each swimmer's events on their arm.
